HLG Wins Summary Judgment for Marie Music Group
/ February 12, 2010
Grammy award winning recording mixers Chris Lord-Alge and Thomas Lord-Alge filed a petition with the California Labor Commission to avoid paying their long-time personal manager, Lisa Marie, on the grounds that she violated the Talent Agency Act by procuring them work even though she did not have a talent agent license. The California Labor Commission granted HLG’s motion to dismiss the petition on the grounds that the Lord-Alges’ mixing contracts were “recording contracts” exempt from the Act. The Lord-Alges then appealed the dismissal of their petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court. In a 23 page decision, the Court agreed with HLG’s arguments that the “recording contracts” exemption applies to the Lord-Alges’ mixing contracts and dismissed their appeal.
